Calculadora de TMB
Calcule a Taxa Metabólica Basal — calorias queimadas em repouso — com a fórmula de Mifflin-St Jeor.
What is a Calculadora de TMB?
BMR is the number of calories your body burns just staying alive at complete rest — breathing, circulation, cell repair — before any activity is added on top. This uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, generally considered more accurate for most people than the older Harris-Benedict formula it replaced.
How to use the Calculadora de TMB
- Enter your gender, weight, height, and age
- Press Calculate BMR
- Your basal metabolic rate appears instantly, computed on your device using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation
Formula
Men: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5 | Women: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age − 161
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation — generally considered more accurate for most people today than the older Harris-Benedict formula it replaced.
Example
A 30-year-old man weighing 70kg at 175cm has a BMR of about 1,674 calories/day — see Calorie Calculator to multiply this by an activity factor for total daily calorie needs, since BMR alone assumes zero movement.
Common mistakes
- Treating BMR as total daily calorie need — it's calories burned at complete rest only; see Calorie Calculator for total need including activity.
- Entering weight in pounds or height in inches into fields that expect kilograms and centimeters.
- Assuming BMR stays fixed over time — it changes as weight, age, and body composition change, so it's worth recalculating periodically.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is calories burned at complete rest. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is BMR multiplied by an activity factor, accounting for movement and exercise — TDEE, not BMR, is your actual maintenance calorie level (see Calorie Calculator).
Why does gender affect BMR?
On average, men carry proportionally more muscle mass than women at the same weight, and muscle burns more calories at rest than fat tissue does — the Mifflin-St Jeor formula's gender-based offset (+5 for men, −161 for women) reflects that average difference.
Why does this only take gender as male or female?
The Mifflin-St Jeor formula's published coefficients were derived separately for male and female physiology and don't have a validated non-binary variant — pick whichever set of coefficients most closely matches your body composition if neither fits exactly.
How does BMR change as you age or lose weight?
BMR tends to decrease with age (partly from gradual muscle loss) and decreases as body weight drops, since a smaller body needs fewer calories to maintain itself at rest — recalculating periodically keeps the estimate current.
