What is a PDF zu PDF/A?
PDF/A is the ISO-standardized archival variant of PDF, required by many courts, government agencies, and libraries for long-term digital records, because it forbids anything that could make a file unreadable decades from now — external font references, embedded JavaScript, encryption. Converting embeds every font directly in the file and strips those unsupported features.

Example
A PDF that references a system font instead of embedding it converts to PDF/A-2 with that font embedded directly in the file, so it renders identically on a machine that opened it in 2026 and one that opens it in 2046 without that font installed.

Is my file sent to a server?
Yes — unlike most tools on this site, this conversion needs software (LibreOffice/Ghostscript/a headless browser) that can't run in your browser, so the file is uploaded, converted on our server, and then deleted. It's not stored beyond the time it takes to process your request.
Is there a file size limit?
Free use covers files up to 100MB per file; signing up for Pro raises that to 500MB.
What is PDF/A, and why would I need it?
PDF/A is an ISO standard for long-term archiving — it embeds fonts and restricts features (like external links or encryption) that could make a file unreadable years from now. It's often required for legal, government, or records-retention filings.
What happens to my file after conversion?
It's deleted from our temporary storage within about 2 hours of the job finishing, whether or not you downloaded the result.
Will converting to PDF/A change how my document looks?
Visually, no — text, layout, and images stay the same. What changes is invisible to the eye: fonts get embedded and any unsupported features PDF/A disallows, like JavaScript or certain transparency effects, get stripped or flattened.
