What is a Redactar PDF?
Redaction permanently removes sensitive content before sharing a PDF externally — a Social Security number on a tax form, an account number on a bank statement — for a purpose that doesn't need it visible. Drawing a black box in a PDF viewer usually doesn't actually delete the text underneath; this rasterizes the page so what's covered is genuinely gone.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No — Redactar PDF runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript/WebAssembly. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
Free use covers files up to 100MB per file; signing up for Pro raises that to 500MB.
Can someone still copy-paste the text I redacted?
No — because the page is rasterized (turned into a flat image) with the box burned in, there's no underlying text layer left for that page at all, redacted or not.
Does redacting one page turn the whole PDF into images, even pages I didn't mark?
Yes — every page is rasterized during redaction, not just the ones with a box, since partial rasterization isn't reliably supported across PDF viewers. Text on unmarked pages is no longer selectable afterward either.
Can I undo a redaction box if I place it in the wrong spot, before downloading?
Yes — nothing is permanent until you download; you can remove or reposition a box freely while you're still working on the page.
