What is a GST-Rechner?
The same add/remove calculation as VAT, under the name used in India, Australia, Canada, and other GST-based tax systems — kept as its own tool since "GST" is a distinct, high-volume search term from "VAT" even though the underlying math (price × (1 + rate/100)) is identical.
How to use the GST-Rechner

Formula
Add GST: Total = Price × (1 + rate/100) | Remove GST: Pre-GST Price = Total ÷ (1 + rate/100)
Mathematically identical to VAT's formula — GST and VAT are the same mechanism under different regional names.
Example
A product listed at ₹590 including 18% GST has a pre-GST price of exactly ₹500 — remove mode divides 590 by 1.18 rather than subtracting 18% of 590 directly, which would (incorrectly) give ₹483.80.
Common mistakes
- Subtracting the GST percentage directly from a GST-inclusive price instead of dividing by (1 + rate).
- Applying a single flat rate where a jurisdiction actually splits GST into components (e.g. India's CGST + SGST, which this tool doesn't separately break out).
- Using Add mode on a price that's already GST-inclusive.

How is GST different from VAT?
They're mathematically identical — both add a percentage on top of a net price — just under different names in different tax systems (GST in India, Australia, Canada, and others; VAT in the UK, EU, and elsewhere).
How do you calculate a GST-inclusive price?
Multiply the pre-GST price by (1 + GST rate/100). A $500 item with 18% GST comes to $500 × 1.18 = $590 including tax.
What GST rate should I use?
Whatever rate applies in your country — common GST rates include 5-28% slabs in India, 10% in Australia, and 5% federal GST in Canada (before provincial tax). Enter the specific rate for your situation rather than a default.
Does this handle the CGST/SGST split used in India?
No — this calculates the total GST amount only, not the CGST/SGST (or IGST) breakdown some Indian tax contexts require. Halve the result for an even CGST/SGST split where that applies.
