What is a Excel to CSV?
CSV is the format most databases, scripts, and other spreadsheet tools actually import cleanly — an .xlsx workbook with multiple sheets, formulas, and formatting doesn't paste or import reliably everywhere, so exporting each sheet to its own plain CSV is often the more portable option for moving data between systems.
How to use the Excel to CSV
- Add an Excel workbook (.xlsx or .xls)
- It's briefly scanned for safety, then converted on your device
- Download one CSV per sheet (zipped if there's more than one)
Example
A 3-sheet Excel workbook (Orders, Customers, Products) converts to three separate CSV files, zipped together, each containing just that sheet's cell values with formulas replaced by their calculated results.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
Your file is briefly sent to our server so it can be scanned for malware before you proceed. We don't store it, and the actual conversion still runs locally in your browser afterward — we never see the converted result.
Is there a file size limit?
Free use covers files up to 100MB per file; signing up for Pro raises that to 500MB.
Are formulas and formatting preserved?
No — only cell values carry over. CSV is a plain-text format with no concept of formulas, cell formatting, multiple sheets, or charts, so converting in either direction keeps values only.
