Example: A semester of Calculus I (A, 4 credits), English Composition (B+, 3 credits), Chemistry (A-, 4 credits), and Physical Education (B, 1 credit) works out to a 3.642 GPA — not a flat average of the four grade points, because the 1-credit PE class pulls far less weight than the two 4-credit courses.

How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), multiplied by that course's credit hours, summed across all courses, then divided by the total credit hours — a credit-weighted average, not a plain average of the grade points.
Will this match my school's official GPA?
It uses the standard 4.0 scale (with or without +/- grades), which most US institutions follow — but some schools use a different scale (a 4.3 for A+, or a 5.0 scale for honors courses), so treat this as a close estimate and confirm against your school's own grading policy for anything official.
Is my numbers uploaded anywhere?
No — GPA Calculator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript/WebAssembly. Your numbers is never sent to a server.
